The Data Analytics Connection

Yep, you read that right. That phrase is what sparked my curiosity about studying data analytics. You might be thinking, “Wait, what does that even have to do with data?”
Well, let me break it down for you. But first, park the car, get out, and take a walk with me for a minute.
Why This Matters
In today’s world, it’s all too easy to get caught up in the whirlwind of he-said, she-said. Social media feeds us endless debates, opinions, and perceptions about everything—including relationships. But here’s the kicker: we also live in a time where we have access to an incredible amount of data that can cut through all the noise and give us real insights into what’s actually going on.
That’s where my interest in data analytics comes in. I want to dig deep into African American dating and marriage patterns to uncover the truth about how our community chooses to partner. Are the things we’re constantly hearing rooted in reality, or are they just myths fueled by social media echo chambers?
The Journey Begins
Of course, I have other data-related interests, but this one? It’s personal. And I quickly realized that before I could even think about analyzing this topic, I’d need a strong foundation in the data analytics process. You can’t just dive into numbers without knowing how to swim in them first, right?
So, I took a bold step: I enrolled in the Google Data Analytics Certification program offered by Coursera.
What is Coursera?
For those who don’t know, Coursera is an online learning platform with hundreds of certification programs and individual classes designed to help people level up their skills. Whether you’re learning to code, mastering project management, or—like me—diving headfirst into data analytics, Coursera’s got you covered.
The Google Data Analytics Certification has been my starting point to understand how to collect, clean, and interpret data. It’s teaching me the skills I’ll need to approach my big question with precision and confidence.
What’s Next?
As I move through this program, I’ll be sharing my journey, insights, and maybe even some mini-projects along the way. My goal isn’t just to learn but to apply this knowledge to topics that matter to me and my community
Because let’s face it—if we’re not using data to challenge perceptions and find the truth, what’s the point?
